Fiction   Essays   Poetry  The Ten On Baseball Chapbooks In Memory

Submission Guidelines

What We Want:

We are looking for fiction, essays, and poetry that reflect the spirit of adventure, the exploration of the soul, the energies of imagination, and the experience of Big Fun. Music, travel, sex, humor, love, loss, art, spirituality, childhood/coming of age, baseball, and dreams -- these are a few of our favorite things -- but most of all we want to read about the things you are passionate about. Genre writing is not encouraged (no sci-fi, erotica, horror, romance, though elements of those may naturally be included).

Fiction and essays should be less than 5000 words; poetry less than 200 lines. We also publish online poetry chapbooks -- please query with samples of your poetry before submitting an entire chapbook.

Please review our current issue before submitting.

How To Submit

Send your submission pasted in the body of an email (our first preference, as it's much easier for us to access that way), or attached as an .rtf file, and include your name, email address, and a short bio. Please title the subject line of your email with the category (fiction, essay, or poetry) and title of your piece, for example, "Fiction Submission: My Fabulous Story Title". Both new and previously published works are welcome.

Submissions of art work are also welcome. Send 1 - 2 pieces attached in .jpg or .gif format, or send a link to posted work elsewhere.

We normally respond within 2 months. If you haven't received a response after that time, feel free to contact us.

Please note that we only accept submissions via email, and not by snail mail.

All submissions should be emailed to editor ( at )

We request one time electronic rights, with optional archiving. Slow Trains publishes regular print volumes, and any rights requested for that will be negotiated at that point in time.
