On
a hot Sunday

afternoon
in late July

at
Kyte Munro Field,

I
went 3 for 4

with
2 stiletto sharp singles

&
a long triple that hooked

then
warped their centerfielder's

mind
like the flag twisting

around
the pole above him,

had
4 rbi's, stole second base twice,

pitched
nine innings,

every
one a perfect goose egg,

rewarped
# 11's mind with a pitch

that
flowed like a slinky

slipping
down a spiral staircase,

then
watched in shock & disbelief

as
Jimmy Sullivan,

who
hadn't risen from the pine all year

&
whose face resembled

a
bunch of purple grapes gone to mold,

walked
away hand in hand

with
the smokey brunette

in
the candy striped dress

&
rhinestone studded black flip flops

who
stopped me cold

with
two winks & a blown kiss

during
the seventh inning stretch.
