Sailing in Cochin

You don't bother
About manmade islands
Bereft of beaches
Or the glistening
Harbour grey waters

Chatter of trawlers
Chinese fishing nets
And centuries-old
Portuguese buildings
Is lost to you in the
Flamboyant drone
Of choppers and
Dirty jokes

You don't even memorize
The sun dropping down
To kiss the crest
Of every ripple, or how,
In revenge, devious water
Ruined by oil-spills
Cuts and scatters light
Into countless fragments

Instead, in the party
Of four and twenty,
You seek a patient ear
And begin to recite
Your love story.
